Mia Luana Werner ist Fashion- und Produktdesignerin sowie Kommunikationsdesignerin mit einem starken Fokus auf Nachhaltigkeit im Produktdesign.
Nach der Schule absolvierte sie eine Ausbildung zur Assistentin für Mode und Design. Anschließend spezialisierte sie sich autodidaktisch auf die Lederverarbeitung. Sie arbeitet ausschließlich mit wiederverwendetem Leder. Dieses bezieht sie aus Resten der Lederindustrie oder rettet es vor der Entsorgung, beispielsweise aus alten Ledermöbeln, kaputten Taschen und abgetragenen Jacken. Leder ist ein extrem langlebiges Material, das kompostierbar ist und oft zu schnell entsorgt wird. Mias Taschen und Rucksäcke sind auf Langlebigkeit ausgelegt. Es werden keine Futter eingenäht, da diese meist zuerst kaputtgehen. Sie nutzt nur die langlebigsten Krampen Reißverschlüsse. Die Produktion erfolgt ausschließlich auf Nachfrage.
Mia hat einen Bachelor in Kommunikationsdesign. Als Kommunikationsdesignerin begeistert sie sich für das Analoge. In einer Ära, die von KI und makellosen Bildern dominiert wird, schätzt sie die kleinen Unvollkommenheiten, die analoges Arbeiten einzigartig machen. Analoge Drucktechniken und Collagen sind heute oft unterschätzt. Jedes ihrer Produkte, ob Rucksack, Tasche oder Printprodukt, ist ein Unikat. Dieser kreative Prozess benötigt mehr Zeit, fällt aber in einer von Bildern überschwemmten Welt auf. In der Aufmerksamkeitsökonomie ist das Besondere unverzichtbar. Ihre Spezialgebiete sind Print, Fotografie und Typografie.
Derzeit arbeitet Mia auch als Dozentin an der Hochschule Mannheim. Sie unterrichtet Design Thinking und praxisorientierte Lehre mit einem Schwerpunkt auf „Making“. Mia verfügt über Kenntnisse im 3D-Druck, Fräsarbeiten, Laserschneiden und CNC-Fräsen. Diese Fähigkeiten bieten die ideale Grundlage für Design und Umsetzung von Prototypen.
Mia Luana Werner is a fashion and product designer as well as a communication designer with a strong focus on sustainability in product design. After completing her school education, she trained as an assistant in fashion and design. She then specialised, through self-study, in leather craftsmanship. She works exclusively with reused leather, sourced either from industry offcuts or rescued from disposal, such as old leather furniture, damaged bags, and worn-out jackets. Leather is an extremely durable material that is compostable and often discarded too quickly. Mia's bags and backpacks are designed for longevity. No linings are sewn in, as they tend to be the first to wear out. She uses only the most durable zippers, and production occurs solely on demand.
Mia holds a Bachelor's degree in Communication Design. As a communication designer, she has a passion for the analogue. In an era dominated by AI and flawless imagery, she values the small imperfections that make analogue work unique. Analogue printing techniques and collages are often underestimated today. Every one of her products, whether a backpack, bag, or printed item, is a unique piece. Although this creative process takes more time, it stands out in a world flooded with images. In the attention economy, the extraordinary is indispensable. Her areas of expertise include print, photography, and typography.
Currently, Mia also works as a lecturer at the Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. She teaches design thinking and practice-oriented courses with a focus on "making". Mia possesses skills in 3D printing, milling, laser cutting, and CNC routing. These skills provide the ideal foundation for the design and implementation of prototypes.
